After an early stumble in their first game, Stephenville’s football team has advanced to today’s championship bracket at the state 7-on-7 tournament in College Station.
The Yellow Jackets took a 32-25 into halftime of their first game in pool play against Pleasanton but had the tables turned on them in the second half for a 60-38 loss.
In their second contest, Stephenville trailed 23-13 at halftime before rallying for a 38-34 win against Pleasant Grove. Game three against Melissa was an even tighter matchup with the Jackets squeaking out a 40-38 win.

Yesterday’s pool play was rather interesting and showed the team in “pool I” are evenly matched. Stephenville advanced to the championship bracket via a tiebreaker over Melissa.
Pleasanton who beat the Jackets in game one lost their next two games to Melissa 56-35 and Pleasant Grove 50-48 and did not advance.
Stephenville plays Cuero in their first game Friday at 9 am and advancing to the championship will be a grueling day with teams advancing to the title game having played four games prior to it.
