Crash on US 281 N kills one, sends two to Fort Worth hospitals

ERATH COUNTY (June 29, 2018) – Just before 1 p.m. Friday, a Ford F-150 turned in front of a milk truck on U.S. 281 North of Stephenville. The ensuing accident sent both drivers to Fort Worth hospitals via air ambulance and killed one pedestrian. The pedestrian was identified as Gary Harris of Erath County, who was checking his mail when the accident occurred.

According to the report from DPS, on Friday, June 29, at approximately 12:55 p.m., the Texas Highway Patrol was called to investigate a two-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on US 281 at a private road numbered 719 just north of Morgan Mill in Erath County.

James D. Moore, 87 of Lipan, was traveling south on US 281 in his F-150 and attempted to turn left across US 281 into his property, but failed to yield right of way to a Western Dairy Milk Transport truck, driven by Danny Mote, 63 of Duffau, traveling north on US 281. The Ford F-150 was struck by the Truck Tractor and both vehicles traveled onto the east side of the roadway where they stuck a pedestrian who was checking his mailbox. The pedestrian was identified as Gary Lee Harris, 68 of Morgan Mill.

Harris was pronounced deceased at the scene by Erath County Justice of the Peace Bart Greenway. Next of kin was notified. James Moore was transported to JPS Hospital in Ft. Worth by Air Ambulance and Danny Mote was transported to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth by air ambulance for treatment of their injuries.
