STEPHENVILLE – The volleyball season is right around the corner and Tarleton will open things up as a top-20 team in the country after the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll was released Thursday afternoon.
Tarleton checks in at No. 18 in the nation in the preseason poll. They are the only Lone Star Conference team ranked in the top 25, but Angelo State and West Texas A&M are receiving votes. Tarleton has been ranked in every poll since the final ranking of the 2016 season.
Under the guidance of head coach Mary Schindler, Tarleton is coming off a 29-6 season that saw the program sweep the Lone Star Conference championships and earn its fourth straight bid to the NCAA postseason. It was the first time in program history that Tarleton has won the LSC regular season and tournament titles in the same year.
Tarleton is returning nine letterwinners from last year’s team, including four All-LSC starters – Adrianna Knutson, Adriana Darthuy, Hannah McManus, and Amber Strange. Darthuy and McManus were second-team honorees while Knutson and Strange were honorable mentions.
Tarleton will begin the season on Friday, August 24 with a two-day tournament in Stephenville. The Tarleton Invitational will be host to eight teams over two days. Tarleton will begin the season at 12:30 p.m. against Black Hills State and 5:30 p.m. against Harding on August 24.
