Tarleton races past region rivals to win East Texas Shootout

COMMERCE – Tarleton completely dominated the field Friday morning as the Texans and TexAnns finished first overall. The Texans finished with a perfect score and took first place in the 8,000-meter race and the TexAnns came away with a close first place finish on the 6,000-meter course.

Johen DeLeon won his first race of the season with a time of 25:08.6. It’s Deleon’s second career race victory.

With DeLeon leading the Texans to a perfect score, Tarleton’s Quenten Lasseter finished second (25:20.4) and Michael Simcho came in third place (25:27.5). Just behind him was Justin Botello placing fourth (25:30.8) and finishing out the pack of Texans was Kyle Doty finishing fifth with a time of 25:35.4. Rounding out the Texan runners was Fabion Trevino placing seventh (26:00.2), Nicholas Mosqueda finishing eighth (26:11.1), Jarred Elizondo came away with ninth (26:22.1) and Cody Drolet finishing 21st with a time of 28:12.7.

Esmeralda Fuentes was the top finisher for the TexAnns in her debut this season. Fuentes placed second with a time of 22:36.4.

With Fuentes leading the pack, Tarleton’s Imani Williams finished in fourth-place with a time of 22:53.1. Following Williams, the TexAnns had three finish in a pack with Meagan Riley placing seventh (23:08.1), Gwyneth Garcia finishing eighth (23:17.5) and Emily Ayers placing ninth with a time of 23:27.5. Rounding out the TexAnn runners was Taylor Richards placing 11th (23:57.9), Alexis Terry finishing 13th (24:41.3) and Karen James came away with 15th with a time of 25:12.5.

The Texans and TexAnns will head to Angelo State on October 23 for the ASU Blue/Gold Classic.
