STEPHENVILLE (October 25, 2018) – The Stephenville’s Men’s Golf Club Association and The Stephenville Optimist Club are hosting the sixth annual ‘Toys Fore Kid’s’ golf tournament and fundraiser on Saturday, Nov. 10 with a 9 a.m. shotgun start time at the Legends Country Club.

Jason Smith, the president of the Stephenville Men’s Golf Association, said that the Stephenville Optimist Club originally started the event almost 20 years ago.

“When we came up with the idea of doing something local, we found out that the Optimist Club was already doing it so we reached out to them and kind of piggybacked onto their efforts. I think it’s been a win/win for both groups and the community,” Smith said.

Last year, there were only 12 teams due to cold weather. In 2016, there were 17 teams. Smith said the goal for this year is to fill the course with 18 teams.

“A lot of legwork goes into making this thing happen so it’s a relief when the work is done and we can just enjoy the day. It’s a good event that brings a lot of folks out to play who maybe don’t play a lot of other golf fundraising events. Trust me when I say, you don’t have to be a good golfer to participate in this one,” Smith said.

The tournament is a four-person scramble. Entry fee is one $25 unwrapped toy per person or $100 donation per team. The cart rental is not included in the fee.

On the day of the event, there will be silent auction items and raffle tickets for sale.

“Come out and expect to have a good time,” Smith said. “We have a fun group that hosts the event, we usually have good prizes for the winners, and thanks to our donors in the Stephenville community, we will for sure have good prizes for the raffle.”

All proceeds will go to Toys for Kids of Erath County.

“We will take donations up until the start of the event but if you want proper recognition, then please try to get it to us no later than Wednesday, Nov. 7th. For the sponsorships, if you want on-air radio recognition, we need a commitment no later than this Friday, Oct. 26. We already have raffle prizes coming in from donors all over town but are still taking donations and there are still sponsorship opportunities available,” Smith said.
