Betty (Perkins) Roberts of Comanche, Texas, passed away on Friday, November 16, 2018, in Comanche, Texas, at the age of 93.

She was born on April 1, 1925, in Merkel, Texas, to Wiley Earl and Rachel (Hellums) Perkins.    Although she graduated from Merkel High School in 1942, she attended Comanche High School in the 1940-41 school year, where she met James Tate Roberts.  They were married on January 2, 1946, in Moran, Texas.

Betty attended Tarleton State College and Hendrick School of Nursing in Abilene, where she graduated as a Registered Nurse.  In her fifty-year nursing career, she worked at numerous hospitals in Comanche and the surrounding area.  Betty delivered countless babies in Comanche during that time, many of whom still stay in contact with her.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and was a joy to her family.  She loved to sew and work Wysocki jigsaw puzzles in her “spare” time and enjoyed the beauty of bird watching, and flowers.  Dr. Pepper was her favorite beverage and she liked it so much she would go to the fence and give a cow a Dr. Pepper.  Betty was a member of First Baptist Church of Comanche.

She is survived by her husband, Jim Roberts of Comanche, son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Mary Roberts of Proctor; daughter and son-in-law Cindy and Bill Rhodes of Proctor; grandchildren: Maclaine and Brian Coles of Royce City, Jacey and Elliott Gray of Houston, and Jill and Ryan Gay of New Braunfels; great-grandchildren: Phaedra and Kahlan Coles, and Wyatt Gay; sister, Fran Benz of Hewitt; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son, Charles Patrick Roberts; parents, Wiley Earl and Rachel Perkins; brothers, Wiley Perkins, Elmo Perkins and Billy Sam Perkins; sisters, Julia Jeffrey, Bea Spencer, and Margaret Perkins; and grandparents, William and Frances Hellums.
