FLASH STAFF REPORT

ERATH COUNTY (November 19, 2018) – Saturday night shots rang out on County Road 387, near the water tower, one bullet striking a house with a child inside.

According to Erath County Sheriff Matt Coates, first responders and sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a home on CR 387 where the complainant reported their home was shot at. Coates reported the home was shot at with a small caliber handgun.

That complainant, Richard Colbe Cash, spoke with The Flash Today this morning.

“I was sitting in my office and we had invited some friends over for dinner around 7:30-8 p.m. (Saturday, Nov. 17). Around 7:40, I heard a couple of what sounded like knocks on my bedroom wall, which is the same as the north outside wall. A few seconds after my wife called out that our friends had arrived. I ran outside to see what was going on and what had hit my house and my friend stated that someone had just let off a few gunshots on the road by my house and took off down the road towards the water tower. I went searching for a hole and found one in my north wall and then found the bullet behind my bed on the floor. We had already called the police and given the best description of what we saw. Sheriff’s Office arrived and took our statements and gave an explanation of what may have happened but didn’t really seem too concerned. I have been looking over mine and a few neighbors’ video surveillance and haven’t found anything yet.”

Cash reported his wife and child were in the home as well as two other adults and another small child at the time of the shooting. He said the best description he has of the vehicle is an older model red Chevy pickup.

Sheriff Coates said this incident is currently under investigation and anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 965-CASH or his office directly at 254-965-3338 and request to speak with Sgt. Ben Moore. Any information no matter how small is beneficial to this investigation.
