STEPHENVILLE – On the week of Thanksgiving, Tarleton Athletics certainly has a lot for which to be thankful.
The football team is 11-0 on the season and is gearing up for another home playoff game this Saturday. The volleyball team just celebrated its first-ever NCAA regional championship and will head to Pittsburgh, Pa. next week for the NCAA Division II Volleyball Championships. The basketball teams are a combined 7-2 on the season and will each be at home once this week for action.
To top it off, Tarleton Athletics is thankful for Texan Nation – who came out in full force last week for one of the most exciting sports weekends in the school’s history. Tarleton enjoyed five home events from Wednesday to Saturday and had over 7,500 combined in attendance to witness a men’s basketball victory, the Tarleton Volleyball regional championship run, and a 58-0 playoff football victory against Azusa Pacific.
This week will feature three home games surrounding Thursday’s Thanksgiving holiday, beginning with a 5:30 p.m. women’s basketball game between Tarleton and Lubbock Christian in a battle of regional powers. Admission will be free and all fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items for donation to the Tarleton Pantry. After the holiday, Tarleton will get back to action in Stephenville on Saturday with a 1 p.m. playoff football game and a 5 p.m. men’s basketball game, which was changed from a 4 p.m. start due to football.
Following last Saturday’s 58-0 win over No. 24 Azusa Pacific in the NCAA playoff opener, Tarleton will have another home game on Saturday as the No. 6 Texans prepare for a rematch against conference rival and defending national champion, Texas A&M-Commerce. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Memorial Stadium in Stephenville.
Tarleton Football is back in the national postseason for the first time since 2009 and hosted the first-ever NCAA playoff game in program history last week against Azusa Pacific. Tarleton won its first outright LSC Championship in program history and completed the first undefeated regular season of Tarleton’s NCAA era. The Texans had a league-best 24 players named all-conference last week, highlighted by the LSC Offensive Back of the Year (Xavier Turner), the LSC Offensive Lineman of the Year (Deon Sheppard), and the LSC Defensive Back of the Year (Devin Hafford).

Tickets are now on sale for Saturday’s NCAA playoff football game in Stephenville against Texas A&M-Commerce. Reserved season ticket holders will have until 5 p.m. on Tuesday to claim their seats before they become open to the public. Contact (254) 968-1832 to confirm the seat reservation. All other reserved tickets can be purchased prior to game by for $12 at the Tarleton Athletics Ticket Office or online at TarletonSports.com/Tickets. Any remaining reserved tickets will be available on game day for $15 at the gate. General admission tickets are $10 for adult and $5 for student. Only children five and under get in free.
Since this is an NCAA-hosted playoff event, the local rules regarding free admission for Tarleton students cannot be put into effect. However, the Tarleton Athletics department has purchased 1,000 free tickets for students. Those can be collected at the Rudder Way Ticket Booth, formerly the Tarleton Police Station, any time this week while supplies last. Students must present a valid ID. One ticket per student.
Tarleton Volleyball won its first-ever NCAA regional championship last weekend and will advance to the NCAA Division II Women’s Volleyball Championship in Pittsburgh, Pa. next week. The TexAnns will open against the winner of the West Regional Tournament, Western Washington, at 12:30 p.m. CT on Thursday, Nov. 29 at the A.J. Palumbo Center in Pittsburgh.
TexAnn Basketball is off to a 3-1 start to the season after splitting last week’s road trip against Biola (Ca.) and Cal Poly Pomona on the west coast. Tarleton will be back in action Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m. against nationally-ranked Lubbock Christian in a rematch of last year’s NCAA regional tournament game.
The Texan Basketball team will close out the week with a game against Oklahoma Panhandle on Saturday evening at 5 p.m. The game has been backed up an hour to accommodate for the playoff football game. The Texans are 4-1 on the season.

The new Rudder Way Ticket Office will open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday this week, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Wednesday, and from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday to hand out free student tickets for Saturday’s playoff game.
