SAN ANGELO – Tarleton senior Sam Scarborough enjoyed a career day at the dish but it wasn’t quite enough to lift the Texans past Angelo State in a 9-7 loss in Sunday’s series finale.

Scarborough helped get the scoring started in the third when he singled to lead off the inning and then came around to score the first run of the game on a two-run single from Tyler Fowler. Tarleton tacked on one more in the third on an RBI single from Jon Law to take a three-run lead.

After a scoreless bottom half of the inning, Tarleton extended its lead out to 5-0 on RBIs from Scarborough and Jacob Walker.

Angelo answered with three in the fourth, four in the fifth, and one run each in the sixth and seventh while Tarleton managed only two more runs on RBI singles from Scarborough in the seventh and ninth innings before falling 9-7.

Scarborough went 3-4 at the dish with a run scored and three RBI while Colby Seltzer, Blake Burns, Law, and Jordan Parker each had two hits for the game. Fowler and Tyler Parker had one hit each to round out the 13-hit attack.

Hunter Thomas took the loss on the bump in 4.2 innings of work. He was relieved by Chris Reed and Jon Law for the final 3.1 innings.

Tarleton will be back home next weekend for a four-game, non-conference series against Eastern New Mexico beginning Friday at 3 p.m.
