After finding themselves in a 7-3 hole after the first two and a half innings, Tarleton rallied to score five unanswered runs over the final four innings and ultimately took the series with a walk-off single to right from Jacob Walker.

The first two Texan pitchers of the game struggled, allowing seven walks and five runs while securing only four outs in the first two innings. Ty Jones came on in relief and settled things down with 3.1 innings of work, allowing three runs – one earned – while striking out a season-high five.

The offense put up three in their half of the first inning and RBI fielder’s choice from Jake Spence and a two-run double from Hunter Thomas. They added one more in the third on an RBI double from Dylan Antonelli.

After the Greyhounds scored their final run of the game in the fifth, Brett Gilchrist and Zach Svensson combined to shut the Hounds down over the final 5.1 innings. The Texan tandem combined for just two hits and two walks while striking out seven over the final five innings. Svensson’s 3.0 innings of scoreless relief earned him the victory for the game.

With Tarleton trailing 8-4 in the seventh, Jake Spence clubbed his third home run in two days with a three-run blast to right field to pull the Texans within one.

In the ninth, Tyler Fowler led things off with a walk and was replaced by pinch-runner Zach Mesa. Blake Burns moved Mesa to second with a sacrifice bunt and then Mesa swiped third on a wild pitch – beating a nearly perfect throw to third base.

The extra base proved to be a difference maker as Tyler Parker scored him as the tying run to send the game to extras at 8-8.

After Svensson sat the Hounds down in order, Hunter Thomas got the game-winning rally started with a single through the right side. Antonelli moved him to second with a sacrifice and Dexter Pruitt came into the game to run.

Sam Scarborough moved Pruitt to third with a grounder, setting up Walker with a runner on third and two away. Walker delivered with a single through the right side to deliver the Tarleton victory.

Thomas led the day at the dish with a 3-5 showing and two RBI. Fowler also had a multi-hit performance while Colby Seltzer, Spence, Antonelli, Scarborough, and Walker had one hit each to round out the offense.

Tarleton will return to action next weekend with a road trip to Odessa for a four-game, non-conference series with UT Permian Basin.
