No. 13 Tarleton wins fifth straight with sweep of Western New Mexico

STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton swept its second straight Lone Star Conference rival Saturday morning with a 7-0 win over Western New Mexico. With the win, No. 13 Tarleton improved to 8-3 on the season and 2-0 in LSC action.

Trying to beat potential rain on the radar, the teams started with singles play and Shelby Fillingame got Tarleton on the board first with a 6-0, 6-1 win in the No. 6 spot. The rest of the team followed suit by taking all six singles points – in the order – Sherine Salem, Nathalie Ulander, Neetika Sud, Faustine Palatte, and Alicia Barbaroux.

The points from Fillingame, Salem, Ulander, and Sud were enough to secure the match victory for Tarleton.

Tarleton would also go on to take the doubles point to complete the sweep with wins in the No. 2 and 3 positions. The top-seed doubles match went unfinished.

Tarleton will stay at home for its third straight league game when the TexAnns host Cameron at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Stephenville.
