STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton Athletics has announced that
The student-athlete of the month is selected based on the all-around student-athlete for one male and one female. The student-athlete will show effort and excellence in academics, leadership, civility, dedication to the team, campus involvement, community service, and the ability to serve as role models for current and future Tarleton State University students and student-athletes.
To be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must be nominated by their head coach or athletic administrator and maintain a grade point average of 2.75 or better. Only in-season athletes are eligible for the award each month.
Quenten Lasseter had two top-5 performances in the first two outdoor meets, including a first-place finish in the 5,000-meter run. Lasseter’s first-place finish at the East Texas Quad was his third career victory and a collegiate best time of 14:58.87. The junior from Robinson High School also had a fourth-place finish at the Wes Kittley Invitational in the 5,000-meters and a 12thplace finish in the 1,500-meters. Lasseter becomes the first athlete in school history to win the award twice in the same year.
Kylee Ponder had her first career victory in the 400-meter dash at the East Texas Quad meet, running a season best time of 57.68. Ponder also ran the first leg of the 4×400-meter relay finishing second and placed 10thin the 200-meter dash. The sophomore from Stephenville High School finished second in the 400-meters and seventh in the 4×400-meter relay at the Wes Kittley Invitational, with an outdoor season best time of 3:59.92.
Once selected as student-athlete of the month, the recipients are eligible to be selected for Tarleton Student-Athlete of the Year award at the end of the season. The yearly award will be recognized at the beginning of the following fall semester.

February: Justin Botello (Track and Field) & Mackenzie Hailey (Women’s Basketball)
March: Quenten Lasseter (Track and Field) & Kylee Ponder (Track and Field)
