STEPHENVILLE – Misty Wilson officially announced the signing of Stephenville’s Jayci Morton to the women’s basketball recruiting class.
“We are excited about signing a local player in Jayci Morton,” said Wilson. “Jayci has tremendous size and athletic ability that will help her transition to the college game. Her size and skill provides some versatility. Jayci has proven to be an outstanding worker on the court and in the classroom. We believe with Jayci being able to devote all of her time to basketball, she is really going to come around quickly and be a player that can impact a game on both ends of the floor.
“I look forward to coaching Jayci for the next four years and I am excited about the impact that she will have on the basketball program and Tarleton State University,” added Wilson.
Morton comes to Tarleton after a three-year standout career for Stephenville High School. She becomes the first Honeybee to sign for the women’s basketball program since Brianna Bledsoe in 2010.
Morton burst onto the basketball scene for Stephenville as a sophomore when she earned TABC All-Region, TGCA All-State and District 8-4A Defensive MVP honors. She followed up with another all-region season as a junior, in which she averaged 10.2 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.
Last year, Morton led the Honeybees with 10.2 points and 6.5 rebounds per game en route to being named TABC All-Region, TGCA All-State, and the District 7-4A District MVP. She was also named to three different Academic All-State teams.
Morton, who originally declared a verbal commitment in November, joins Tarleton’s recruiting class that includes Callie Boyles (Denton Guyer HS), Madison Cawley (Lake Country Christian HS) and Jasmine Bailey (Midlothian Heritage HS).
