Letters to the Editor

Erath County is home to people of many different ethnicities, races, and lifestyles. We have people of different faiths, of no faith, some with many skills, some with few. We’re home to rodeo stars, brain researchers, teachers, firefighters… an amazing assortment of folks live among us.  But what matters is that we’re all human and ALL of us deserve respect, despite what our differences may be.  Differences among people are good, who wants to live in a community where everyone is the same religion or were all raised in the same place?  We are stronger because of our diversity and not to recognize that hurts us.

It’s my hope that we see greater diversity among our locally elected officials in the near future, to reflect the community that lives here. I embrace and welcome people from all walks of life and I believe that most of you do, too. We should not judge people by the color of their skin or their nation of origin or their ancestry; we should get to know them and let them know us. When we treat each other with dignity and respect, we make ourselves and our community a good place to be.

Chair, Erath County Democratic Club
