Brownie Kathleen Martin, age 67, better known as Kathy to her friends, or Mrs. Martin to her students, passed away August 23, 2019, in her home, surrounded by her family. She fought a mighty fight but Cancer is sometimes a relentless opponent.

Kathy was born December 30, 1951, in Brady, Texas, to Orman J. and Martha (Rowell) Myers.  She married Ronnie L. Martin on October 24, 1969, at his parents’ home in Comanche, Texas.  She was a mother of two, grandmother of three and great-grandmother of one.

Kathy was a 1970 graduate of Comanche High School and graduated in 1982 from Tarleton State University in Stephenville with a BS in education.  Kathy was the first in her family to obtain a college degree and inspired most of her siblings to do the same.  She started her career teaching in De Leon ISD and, after five years, she took a position at Sidney ISD, where she taught for the bulk of her career.  She took a hiatus from teaching in the early 2000s to work in her husband’s fabricating business as the office manager and computerized drafter.  In 2002 she returned to teaching at Priddy ISD, but after a couple of years at Priddy, she took a position teaching Junior High with Rising Star ISD.  In October, 2007, she was in a life altering car accident and retired from teaching at the end of the 2007-2008 school year.  She spent her retirement babysitting her two youngest grandchildren and enjoying time with family.  She also converted her woodworking shop into a sewing room so she and her sisters-in-law could take up quilting, which she loved to do.

Kathy is survived by the following: her husband of almost fifty years, Ronnie L. Martin of Comanche. Her daughter, Teresa (Terri Lee) Wilson, her husband Terry, and Teresa’s children: Audrey Wilson, Lucas Wilson and Matthew Skaggs, his wife Chyenne and daughter Stokley all of Comanche.  Her son, Travis Martin and wife Rhonda of Comanche.  Her parents, Orman J. and Martha Myers of Brownwood.  One sister, Erma Ellison and husband Jerry of Santa Anna; Three Brothers, Johnie Myers and wife Cindy of Columbus, Ohio, Douglas Myers and wife Beth of Comanche and Robert Myers and wife Jeannie of Brownwood.  As well as, her sister-in-law, Joyce Myers of Coleman and brother-in-law, Jimmie Martin and wife Betty of Comanche.  She is also survived by thirteen nieces and nephews and thirty-three great-nieces and nephews.

Kathy was preceded in death by her older brother, Michael Myers, formerly of Big Spring.
