LAREDO – Tarleton didn’t have to wait long to return to the court as the No. 10 Texans took out their Friday frustrations on Texas A&M International in a straight-set victory in Laredo.

Tarleton was forced to play catch up early on as the Dustdevils built an early lead and maintained it as late as 17-16. Natalya Chatham landed a kill shot to even things up at 17-17 and start a run of four straight Texan points to give Tarleton a 20-17 lead and force International into a timeout.

Tarleton scored five of the next eight points out of the break with Sofia Tonga capping it off at 25-20.

The Dustdevils opened the second half with a 5-3 edge but Tarleton surged once again when Lauren Kersey landed a kill shot to spark six straight Texan points for a 9-5 lead. After International clawed back to take a 15-14 lead, Adriana Darthuy stepped up with a kill and back-to-back service aces to start Tarleton’s final push in the set. The Darthuy points were the beginning of an 11-4 Tarleton run that secured the second set 25-19.

Tarleton jumped on top early in the final set by scoring six of the first eight points. The Texans were in cruise control in the third set and led by as many as 11 before winning 25-16 and earning the sweep.
