No. 14 Texans fall to UAFS

STEPHENVILLE – No. 14 Tarleton Volleyball suffered a four-set loss (15-25, 25-22, 21-25, 16-25) to the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith on Saturday in the Wisdom Volleyball Gym.

The loss moves the Texans to 9-5 overall and 4-2 in the Lone Star Conference. The Texans hit .127 for the match with Lauren Kersey posting a team-leading 12 kills on a .474 percentage. UAFS hit .287 behind Anna Demmer’s match-high 20 kills.

The visiting Lions led from start to finish in the opening set. The Texans got to within two points at 12-10, but the Lions pulled away with 11 of the next 13 points to take the opening game.

As the Texans looked to tie the match up in the second set, they alternated points with the Lions through the first 36 points to the tune of a 18-18 tie. Amber Strange, who had 11 kills in the match, gave the Texans the lead with two straight kills to go up 20-18. Up 23-22, Tatyana Tuialii-Umi put the Texans at set point with one of her 10 kills and Lauren Kersey closed the set out defensively with a block to even the match at 1-1.

In the third set, Tarleton and UAFS were tied at 21-21 before the Lions scored the final four points off three attack errors.

Tarleton needed the fourth set to keep the match alive, but UAFS went on a 12-3 run with the Texans only down two to take a double-digit lead and win the match.

The Texans will travel to Denton on Tuesday, October 8 to take on Texas Woman’s at 6 p.m. in the Kitty Magee Arena.
