STEPHENVILLE – For the second consecutive week and third time this season, B.J. Jefferson has been named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

Jefferson continued to wreak havoc on the Lone Star Conference as the senior defensive end led the Tarleton defense in a 49-10 rout of Eastern New Mexico in Portales. The Greyhounds entered the game as the top-ranked rushing attack in the nation but mustered only 173 yards on the ground and 221 yards of total offense against the Texan defense.

Jefferson was at the forefront of the attack with eight tackles, including 2.5 for a loss and 1.5 sacks. Jefferson also put a stamp on the game with a fumble recovery on Eastern New Mexico’s second drive of the second half that led to the final score of the night from Daniel McCants. It’s his fifth straight game with at least 2.0 tackles for a loss and his second straight game to create a turnover for the defense.

The senior from Acres Home, Texas leads the LSC in tackles for a loss this season with 13.5 and is second in sacks with five. Jefferson is the only player in the LSC to win the Player of the Week award three times.

Jefferson and the Texans will take on No. 20 Texas A&M-Commerce for its homecoming game on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.
