STEPHENVILLE – Sofia Rodriguez has been named the Lone Star Conference Golfer of the Week after leading Tarleton to its first tournament win of the season.
Rodriguez was the driving force behind Tarleton’s comeback to win the Oklahoma Intercollegiate after trailing by 11 strokes on Monday. Rodriguez shot a career-best 145 (+3) to win the first individual tournament title of her career. Rodriguez moved up nine spots after firing a collegiate personal best 69 (-2) in the final round – a seven-stroke difference than her first round.
The freshman from Spain has finished in the top 20 in all four tournaments this season and Tuesday’s win was the first top 10 placement. Rodriguez posted a team-leading 25 pars and four birdies. She also led the field in Par 4 scoring, shooting a 3.94 (-1) and was the only player to shoot under par on Par 4s.
It’s the first career LSC Weekly award for Rodriguez, who joins Junie Khaw on winning conference Golfer of the Week awards this season.
The Oklahoma Intercollegiate was the final tournament of the fall season for the Texans. The spring season will begin on Feb. 24 when the Texans compete at the St. Edward’s Invitational in Austin.
