No. 23 Texans fall to St. Edward’s in five

AUSTIN – The No. 23 Tarleton Volleyball team suffered a five-set loss in Austin to St. Edward’s on Saturday afternoon.

Adriana Darthuy, Lauren Kersey, and Amber Strange recorded 15 kills each. Sofia Tonga hit .478, while Amari Franklin led the match in assists with 39.

The Texans took the first set, 25-23. The team hit .364, while holding the Hilltoppers to just .178.

In the second set, Tarleton and St. Edward’s were tied at 25. Both teams traded kills, but the Hilltoppers were able to capture the set with an ace, 31-29.

St. Edward’s dominated the third set, 25-18, holding Tarleton to a .163 hitting percentage and zero blocks.

Tarleton made a comeback in the fourth set, 25-16. Tied at 10, the Texans went on a 11-3 run to push ahead of the Hilltoppers. St. Edward’s was unable to catch up, forcing a final set to determine the match.

In the fifth and final match, both teams were tied at 13. Two straight Texan errors secured the win for the Hilltoppers.

The Texans will return home to the Wisdom Volleyball Gym next week for three match-ups. First, Tarleton will take on West Texas A&M on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 7:00 pm. Over the weekend, the Texans will battle #21 Texas A&M Commerce on Friday at 6:00 pm and UT-Tyler on Saturday at 2:00 pm. Friday’s match-up will be a Max Point Game (500 points) on the Tarleton Sports app.
