Men Finish 10th, Women 14th at NCAA Regional Championships

CANYON – The Tarleton cross country teams wrapped up the 2019 season at the NCAA South Central Regional Championships in Canyon on Saturday morning.

The men scored 318 points to claim the 10th spot, while the women placed 14th with 437 points. The men’s team completed a 10,000-meter course, while the women ran a 6,000-meter course.

“I’m very proud our team and how they competed today,” Coach Pat Ponder said. “It was a great race to finish the season.”

Michael Simcho was the top finisher for the Tarleton men, placing 32nd with a time of 32:41.2. Freshman Kevin Baez placed 39th with a time of 32:59.34. Nicholas Mosqueda and Quenten Lasseter also finished in the top-100, with times of 33:49.26 (70th place) and 33:54.89 (74th), respectively.

Simcho remains in the hunt to secure an elusive spot in the NCAA National Championship meet in Sacramento, California on Nov. 23. The NCAA national qualifiers will be announced Monday at 4 p.m.

Rounding out the men’s team was Dominick Vastlik in 105th place (34:35.29), Kyle Doty in 108th place (34:40.15), and Klay Howard in 119th place (35:05.61).

Imani Williams led the way for the Texans, placing 34th with a time of 23:07.49. Williams was the top female Texan at every meet this season. Jenna Brazeal placed 75th with a time of 24:10.29. Johnnie Wilkinson finished with a time of 24:39.56 (101st place), while Meagan Riley ran a 24:44.98 (106th).

Rounding out the women’s team was Haley Dennard in 122nd place (25:00.58), Taylor Richards in 132nd place (25:10.51), and Kaleigh Ellis in 159th place (25:57.26). Wilkinson and Riley had their best 6K times of the season.
