Texan women’s basketball wins fourth straight to open season with 31-point rout over Arlington Baptist

STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton Women’s Basketball improved to 4-0 on the season with an 81-50 win over Arlington Baptist on Thursday in Wisdom Gym.

Mackenzie Hailey led the Texans with 17 points and added seven rebounds. Kandyn Faurie registered a new career high in scoring for the second straight game, posting 12 points on 5-6 shooting with five rebounds and three assists. Freshman Callie Boyles had her first career double-digit scoring game with 10 points on 4-4 shooting and four rebounds off the bench to lead all players.

The Texans have now won three of their four games by double digits and the 31-point win is the largest of the season.

The Texans scored over 20 points in each of the first three quarters to build a commanding lead in which they shot 52 percent from the floor and held Arlington Baptist to 37 percent shooting.

In the opening quarter, the Texans used a 7-2 run to close out the period and led 20-10 after one. Fauire scored the final five points to give Tarleton its first double-digit lead of the game and they never led by less than 10 the rest of the way.

Back-to-back 3-pointers to open the second quarter by Erin Brumley and Jayci Morton extended the lead to 16 and was the start of a 21-point quarter. Morton scored eight points on 3-3 shooting and added four rebounds and two blocks. Brumley finished with five points and a steal. Tarleton led 42-29 at the break.

The Texans came out of the locker room and had their highest scoring quarter of the season, outscoring the Patriots 24-13. Tarleton closed the quarter on an 8-0 run to lead 65-24 after three. The largest lead of the game came in the fourth quarter on a layup from Morton to put the Texans up 33 with four minutes left.

Marissa Escamilla posted nine points in 13 minutes off the bench on 4-6 shooting. Led by Faurie’s 12 points, Boyles’ 10 and Escamilla’s nine, the Texans poured in 44 bench points for a season best.

Alex Hoy added eight points and four rebounds, while Lucy Benson (4 points), Kaitlyn Guillory (5), and Kylie Collins (3) rounded out the scoring efforts.

Tarleton will open Lone Star Conference play at home on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 5:30 p.m. against Texas Woman’s.
