STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton Athletics has announced that Noah Perez of Texan Football and Mackenzie Hailey of Texan Women’s Basketball are the November recipients of the ‘Tarleton Student-Athletes of the Month’ award, presented by The Grove.
The student-athlete of the month is selected based on the all-around student-athlete for one male and one female. The student-athlete will show effort and excellence in academics, leadership, civility, dedication to the team, campus involvement, community service, and the ability to serve as role models for current and future Tarleton State University students and student-athletes.
To be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must be nominated by their head coach or athletic administrator and maintain a grade point average of 2.75 or better. Only in-season athletes are eligible for the award each month.
Perez wrapped up his illustrious four-year career with the Texan football team last month and celebrated by helping Tarleton finish off its second consecutive undefeated regular season and Lone Star Conference championship season. Perez anchored one of the best offensive lines in the country and started every game at center on his way to an All-LSC First Team selection. With Perez leading the way, the Tarleton offense ranked among the top five in the nation in total offense (531.7 ypg) and scoring offense (45.0 ppg).
Hailey is no stranger to this award as this is her third consecutive season with a monthly recognition. She started off her senior season by leading the Texans to a 5-1 record in the opening month, over which she has already been awarded two Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week awards. Hailey is the Tarleton leader and second in the LSC in scoring at 16.0 points per game. She has scored double-digits in all six games of the season thus far, including a pair of 20-point performances and a double-double against Colorado Mesa.
Once selected as student-athlete of the month, the recipients are eligible to be selected for Tarleton Student-Athlete of the Year award at the end of the season. The yearly award will be recognized at the beginning of the following fall semester.
