Quata Eileen Burden Powers, born October 7, 1922 in Falls Creek, Texas to parents Henry and Maymee Burden passed away in Fort Worth, Texas on January 24, 2020 at age 97.

Quata married Joseph Andrew Powers on October 7, 1943 in Dallas, Texas. They decided to marry on October 7th as it was also both of their birthdays! They raised two sons, enjoying life together playing dominoes and traveling until his passing on November 21, 2003.

Quata worked in Chicago, Illinois at the National Cash Register before getting married. Then at a shipyard in San Rafeal in California during WWll. Later she also worked as an apartment manager, bookkeeper and managed the estate of Bill Carter for many years in Texas.

Quata loved her family! She is the glue that held her family together. Quata considered her brothers, sisters and their spouses as friends sharing many meals, playing dominoes and even traveling together. Quata was considered to be the second mom to many of her nieces and nephews!

Preceding Quata in death were her parents; Henry and Maymee Burden, husband; Joe Powers, and siblings; Evelyn Sorenson, Douglas Burden, Geraldine Appleby, Adrian Burden, Charles Burden, Norma Williston, JW Burden and Wayne Burden.

Surviving Quata are sons, Ron and Terry Powers, daughter-in-law; Patty Powers, granddaughter; Brandy Bruner, and great grandchildren; Nicholas and Lauren Bruner.

In addition, 23 years ago when Terry and Patty were married, Quata became the adopted grandma to Mark, Jeannie, Jacob and Casey. Also, the adopted great grandma to Kelsey, Cameron, Elijah, Kyla, Samuel and the adopted great, great grandma to Blakelynn. Quata was loved by so many and will be missed!

Service Information

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on February 1 at the Harvest Hills Funeral Home in Hico with burial to follow in the Fairy Cemetery.

  1. So sorry to learn Quata has left this earth world. I can visualize her smile when seeing her heavenly family.
