Brazeal Breaks Her Second Program Record of Season, McQuirter Surpasses PV Mark

HOUSTON – The Tarleton track and field teams competed at the Howie Ryan Invitational on Friday in Houston. The Texans recorded 10 top-10 placements during the meet.

Freshman Jenna Brazeal broke her second program record of the season. She surpassed the 800m record with a time of 2:18.4 and placed ninth in the event. Haley Dennard set the previous record of 2:20.45 in 2016.

Senior Jasmine McQuirter hit an NCAA provisional mark in the long jump for the second time this season. McQuirter placed third in the event with a mark of 5.9m (19-4.25). The provisional mark is set at 5.67.

McQuirter’s placement in the long jump was the top individual performance of the women’s team. Other top performances included Marshae Davis, who placed seventh in the shot put with a measurement of 12.34m (40-6.0), and Brazeal’s record-breaking 800m run.

Cornelius Coleman was the top performer of the men’s team. The junior placed second in the 60m hurdles with times of 8.25 (semi) and 8.29 (prelim). Coleman finished third in the finals with a time of 8.25. Freshman Kevin Baez also had an outstanding showing, placing third in the men’s mile with a time of 4:17.36.

The Texans had eight top 10 finishers in the running events and two in the field events.

Next up, the Texans will travel to Lubbock to compete at the Lone Star Conference Indoor Championships. The championship will take place at the Texas Tech Sports Performance Center Friday and Saturday, February 21st – 22nd.
