STEPHENVILLE – After a 2-1 road trip to Lubbock Christian’s Round Robin, Tarleton has moved up one spot in the national rankings to No. 23 in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll.
Tarleton opened the year ranked No. 21 in the nation and has defeated previously-ranked No. 1 Augustana (S.D.) on their way to an 13-4 start this year. The Texans have now been ranked in 10 consecutive NFCA polls dating back to April 3, 2019, including last year’s final and this year’s preseason rankings.
This is also the 31st week in program history that Tarleton has received national recognition in the NFCA poll.
The Lone Star Conference remains one of the elite conferences represented in the national poll. Newcomer UT Tyler (10-0) leads the conference ranked at No. 3 while Angelo State (8), Texas A&M-Commerce (16), Texas A&M-Kingsville (19) and Lubbock Christian (22) join Tarleton in the poll to give the LSC six teams among the top 25. Oklahoma Christian is also receiving votes.
Tarleton will begin Lone Star Conference play this weekend with road trips to UT Permian Basin and Western New Mexico. The Texans will play the Falcons in Odessa Friday at 4 p.m. and the Mustangs in Silver City on Sunday at 11 a.m.
