Texans Remain No. 8 in NCAA Regional Poll

STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton Women’s Basketball stayed at No. 8 in this week’s NCAA South Central Regional poll.

The Texans are 21-7 overall with a 15-7 mark in Lone Star Conference play. Tarleton is 19-7 this season against NCAA Division II teams and has an 18-7 in-region record.

The Lone Star Conference makes up seven of the 10 teams in the regional poll, led by Lubbock Christian at No. 1, followed by West Texas A&M (2), Texas A&M-Commerce (3), Angelo State (7), Eastern New Mexico (9), and St. Edward’s (10). The other South Central Region conference, the Rocky Mountain Athletic (RMAC), makes up the other three spots with Colorado Mesa (4), Western Colorado (5), and Westminster (6).

The Texans have defeated four of the 10 regionally-ranked teams this season, coming up with road wins against St. Edward’s, West Texas A&M, and Eastern New Mexico, while defeating Colorado Mesa at home.

Tarleton has qualified for nine NCAA regional tournaments, including each of the last three seasons, which is the second-longest streak in program history.

The NCAA South Central regional tournament will consist of the tournament champions of the Lone Star and Rocky Mountain Athletic conferences as well as six at-large teams. The top seed in the region will be the tournament host from March 13-16. The selection show will take place on Sunday at 9:00 p.m. CT.

Head coach Misty Wilson and the Texans travel to Frisco this weekend for the Lone Star Conference Tournament. Tarleton earned the No. 4 seed and will battled fifth seed Eastern New Mexico on Thursday in the quarterfinals at 8:30 p.m. in the Comerica Center.
