STEPHENVILLE – For the second straight week, the top doubles team in the Western Athletic Conference resides in Stephenville as Martha Makantasi and Elsa Boisson were named the TicketSmarter WAC Players of the Week. Makantasi was also named the Singles Player of the Week to sweep the recognition.

The Texans earned their first two Division I wins last weekend with a victory Saturday against Lamar and their first WAC win Sunday against UTRGV in Edinburg.

Makantasi, a freshman from Metamorfosi, Greece, dominated last week as she helped lead the Texans to a perfect 2-0 weekend. On Saturday, she secured a singles win in the third flight against Lamar, winning 7-5, 6-4 as the Texans went on to collect their first Division I win. Against UT Rio Grande Valley, she earned the first singles point of the afternoon as she won 6-0, 6-2 to help Tarleton notch their first WAC win. On the season, Makantasi pushed her singles winning streak to three straight and is tied for a team-best record of 3-1.

On the doubles side, Makantasi and Boisson, a freshman from Fontenay-le-Comte, France, teamed up to win their first two career doubles matches. The rookie duo started their weekend strong, earning the win over Lamar’s Jayci Wong and Elena Rubio, 6-1. They also controlled their second match as they conquered UTRGV’s Katarina Sasaroga and Sandra Putz, 6-2.

This is the second straight week that Tarleton has earned the doubles players of the week after Celia Vaudiau and Rose Watanabe claimed that honor last week. Makantasi is the first Texan in school history to earn the WAC honor as a singles player.

Tarleton is looking to ride its momentum from last weekend’s wins into a pair of road matched this weekend. The Texans visit Abilene Christian Friday and UT Arlington Saturday in their respective towns.
