CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Tarleton Women’s Golf will make its NCAA Division I debut this week at the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islander Classic.

The 54-hole tournament will take place on February 22-23 at the Corpus Christi Country Club, which is a par 72, 6,092-yard course. The teams will play 36 holes on Monday, followed by 18 holes on Tuesday to close out the tournament.

There will be an 8:20 a.m. shotgun start with all 14 teams starting at the same time on a different hole. Teams will stick together and will not have student-athletes from different teams paired together, due to COVID19 policies.

Tarleton is one of 14 teams in the season-opening tournament, joined by: Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (host), Sam Houston State, Houston Baptist, Ball State, Louisiana-Monroe, Weber State, Stephen F. Austin, UTRGV, Incarnate Word, McNeese State, Loyola-Chicago, Prairie View A&M and McLennan College.

The Texans, led by third-year head coach Isabel Jimenez, have two returners and three newcomers on the 2021 spring roster. Junie Khaw leads the Texans in her senior year and the three-time all-conference winner will play as the No. 1 on the roster. Sofia Rodriguez, an all-conference selection last year as a freshman, takes the No. 2 spot on the lineup. Newcomers in roster order making their collegiate debut are: Beatrice Grise (Quebec, Canada), Marianella Moreschi (Cordoba, Argentina) and Alejandra Cambronero (Marbella, Spain).

After a Texas-wide winter storm last week, weather in Corpus Christi is close to normal with forecasts in the mid-60s both days.
