STEPHENVILLE – The Texans pick up their first Western Athletic Conference victory over Sacramento State 16-13 while recording 18 hits.

There was no shortage of hot bats in the Texan dugout today with four Texan home runs, seven Texans recording a multi-hit game and all nine hitters recording at least one hit.

Sacramento State put the Texans in a bit of a hole to begin the game with an eight-run top of the third for the Hornets, but the Texans never backed down. Answering with three runs of their own on a RBI single from Kade Turnage, a fielder’s choice that scored Bryan Aguilar and two-out RBI double from Cody Vannoy, they cut into the Hornets lead early and didn’t stop there.

The Texans recorded two more runs in the second and three in the third when Colby Feris hit a solo shot to centerfield and Colby Seltzer hit a two-run bomb with one out to get the score within one.

The big inning for the Texans came in the bottom of the fourth when the Texans plated seven more runs to give them a commanding 15-9 lead over the Hornets. With two outs and runners at second and third Vannoy singled to right field scoring both Aguilar and Kemuel Thomas-Rivera to take a 10-9 lead. The Home run derby from the third inning continued as Corey Young blasted one over the wall in left center scoring Vannoy. In the next at bat Seltzer  hammered his second home run of the day and fifth of the year over the wall in left center. London Green singled up the middle before Tyler Fowler stepped up to bat and hit his first homer of the year adding two more runs.

The Texans didn’t get any more runs across in the fifth, sixth or seventh innings, while the Texan bullpen only allowed one more run across in those innings with one Hornet scoring in the sixth.

The Hornets were able to get things within two with an eighth inning three-run home run. Tarleton got one back in the bottom of the eighth on a single from Fowler scoring Green from third before the ending ended.

Bryce Hackett got the start on the mound tonight for the Texans and after the first inning only allowed one run and striking out four on the day in 4.0 innings pitched. Luke Baley recorded the win today for the Texans allowing four hits and striking out four Hornets. A.J. Wood shut things down for the Texans tonight recording the save in 2.0 innings pitched striking out three and allowing no runs and no hits.

Tarleton will face the Hornets one more time tomorrow at 12 p.m. as they look to even the series at 2-2 and pick up another WAC win.
