Laura McLeod was born October 11, 1930 to Bert and Laura Shepherd. She grew up on a farm in Leona, Texas. At age 16 Laura went to Sam Houston State Teacher College and met the love of her life Mack McLeod. She earned a degree in Elementary Education on August 25, 1950 and got married the same day. Laura taught 1st grade for 9 years in Corpus Christi, and 5 years in Austin. Laura and Mack moved to Stephenville in 1964 where they became members of First United Methodist Church (FUMC). Laura served on the committee that originated Stepping Stones and taught in the Stepping Stones programs. She also served on the committee that founded the Latchkey Program now known as Tree House. Laura also served as the Education Director at FUMC for 14 years. During her tenure, the Sunday evening program and the acolyte program was pioneered. Vacation Bible School returned to FUMC after having been an ecumenical VBS for many years. She entered into eternal peace on April 7, 2021.

Laura was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Mack and her 4 sisters— Virginia, Aletha, Georgia, and Inez. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law (Laura and Gary Davis) and grandchildren Madaline and Marshall, a son and daughter-in-law (Tom and Stacey McLeod) and grandchildren Dylan, Tori and T.J., a Brother-in-law, Pat McLeod and many nieces and nephews.


Service Information

Visitation will be held from 10 until 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 17, at the Stephenville Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 17, in the West End Cemetery in Stephenville.
