Texans dominate Wolverines to take both games of the Saturday twin bill

OREM – The Texans picked up two more wins today as they defeated the Wolverines in both games to take the series lead 3-0 going into tomorrow’s series finale.

Game 1: Tarleton 9, Utah Valley 7
The Texans and Wolverines kept game one a close battle until the end. Tarleton came from behind to take game one of the doubleheader 9-7.

Utah Valley gets on the board first in the bottom of the 1st but the Texans are able to answer with a run of their own in the top of the 2nd. The Wolverines get four more runs over the next four innings as the Texans are only to plate two runs in that time.

The Texans went into the 7th trailing by two and had some work to do. A six-run top of the 7th puts the Texans on top on a two RBI single from Tyler fowler, an RBI single from London Green and a three RBI double from Colby Seltzer.  Utah Valley plated two in the bottom of the 7th but the Texans held on to the lead and took game one of the day.

Four Texans had multi-hit game, Bryan Aguilar, Green, Wade Raburn and Seltzer each had two hits in the game. Dean Frew crushed his first long ball of the season for the only home run of the game. Seltzer had a game high four RBI as he went 2-for-4 in game one with a double. Kemuel Thomas-Rivera recorded a triple today, his first of the season.

Luke Baley got the start on the mound tonight going 5.0 innings before Jake Pennington came in as the first reliever.  Ty Jones went 0.2 innings today recording the win in game one before AJ Wood closed things out also going 0.2 innings and recording his seventh save this season.

Game 2: Tarleton 8, Utah Valley 1
The Texans dominated the Wolverines in game two of the day beating Utah Valley 8-1. The Texans came out swinging recording 14 hits in the game and not giving up a run until the 8th inning.

Tarleton scored at least one run in six of the nine innings today putting up a three sport in the top of the 4th. Green had the best day at the plate going 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and scoring two runs. Frew, Seltzer and Blake Burns each had two hits in the game with Frew and Ian Groves each recording a game high two RBI.

Two Texans, Colby Feris and Seltzer, blasted the long ball today pushing the Texans to their win in game three. Both Feris’ and Seltzers’ homers left the facility.

Utah Valley was left scoreless until the 8th inning when they plated their only run of the game.

Bryce Hackett threw seven scoreless innings, striking out six and only allowing three hits. Hackett recorded his second win of the year in the game. Zach Poe closed out the game going 2.0 innings only allowing two hits.

The Texans are taking on the Wolverines for the finale game of the four-game series Sunday, April 18. First pitch for the series finale is slated for 12 p.m. CT.
