January 7, 1934 ~ April 23, 2021 (age 87)

James T. Young, 87, of Stephenville, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, April 23, 2021, in his home surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Sunday, April 25th at Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel with Doug Svien and Mike Dacus officiating.  Burial will follow at West End Cemetery.  Visitation with the Young family will begin at 1:00 PM Sunday, one hour prior to services.

James was born January 7, 1934, in Dublin to the late Othel T. and Lottie Lee Lowrey Young.  He and Patsy Ruth were married on December 20, 1952, in Stephenville. Patsy preceded him in death on January 2, 2015.  James graduated from Stephenville High School, Class of 1951, went on to attend Tarleton College and University of Texas.  He received his degrees in History and Civil Engineering.  James played baseball while in High School, and college, and for a short time played semi-pro baseball for the Fort Worth Cats. 

James was a registered Civil Engineer, and worked for Texas Highway Department. In 1960, James went in partnership with his father-in-law, Eddie Williams, and began Williams and Young Paving Company.  In 1990, James worked twelve years in Glen Rose as the Somervell County Engineer.

James loved baseball, he coached many years, teaching not only his three sons, but many boys in little league baseball.  He later sponsored a high school ‘club’ baseball team, and coached several young men including his son, Othel.  James spent 18 years serving on Stephenville ISD as a school board trustee.  He built the track for Stephenville High School, and in 1983, James constructed the baseball field at Stephenville High School, and the Stephenville ISD honored him by naming the field, James T. Young Baseball Field.  He was a member of Graham Street Church of Christ, and served Churches of Christ as a Sunday School teacher, deacon, and elder.

Survivors include his children, James Eddie and wife Karla Young of Stephenville, Pam Young of Stephenville, Patrick Othel and wife Amy Young of Stephenville, Richard and wife Belinda Young of Stephenville, and DeAnna and husband Randall Bozarth of Glen Rose; grandchildren, Aaron Young of Stephenville, Adam and wife Erin Young of The Woodlands, Trina and husband Andy Coats of Carthage, TyAnna and husband Keith Virdell of Goldthwaite, Trisha and husband J J Williams of Taylor, Elizabeth Young of Stephenville, Nicholas and wife Maranda Young of Midland, Rachel Young of Houston, Shelby Young of Stephenville, Sophie Bozarth of Glen Rose and Emma Bozarth of Glen Rose; great grandchildren, Jaedon, Olivia, Kade, Davis, Kyler, Baker, Remi, Hollyn, and Myla; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, and wife, Patsy; James was also preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Martin.
