Margie was born on July 20, 1933 to Roy and Leona Derrick on their family farm in Duffau, Texas. Margie attended school in Duffau then graduated from Hico High School at the age of sixteen. The day after she graduated, Margie went to work in town at the movie theater and Wiseman’s Studio. A few years later, she married Ira “Jackie” Decker in November 1951. After Ira returned from the Marines, they moved to Brownfield, Texas.

While living in west Texas, they had two sons, Larry and Dahl Decker, and the family settled in Andrews, Texas, northwest of Midland-Odessa. Once the boys were old enough to attend school, Margie became a licensed nurse and worked at Permian General Hospital. After a few years, the family returned to
Hico, Texas in 1969 to start a business. Ira and Margie owned and operated the Hico Western Auto Store for 35 years until 2005. Margie took a great deal of pride in her business and took a personal interest in each of her customers, treating them as extended family. She was always striking up conversations with customers, genuinely interested in their lives and families.

In her free time, Margie enjoyed sewing, making quilts, and gardening. Margie enjoyed growing roses, irises, vegetables, and fruit tree trees. Giving her life to Jesus as a young child, Margie attended church devotedly, sang in the choir, and was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Duffau. Margie was affectionately known as “Granny” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Margie was predeceased by her parents Roy and Leona Derrick; husband Ira Jackie Decker; sons Larry Clay and Dahl Decker; and grandson Jacob Alan Decker. She is lovingly remembered by her grandsons Jeremy Decker (Cara) of Waco and Matt Decker of Hico; granddaughter-in -law, Cassie Evans of Dallas; great grandchildren Hattie Pearl Decker, Landry Decker, and Jace Decker; as well as numerous relatives and friends.

A celebration of Margie’s life will be held on Friday, May 7, with a visitation at 1 p.m. at Duffau Baptist Church, followed by services at 2 p.m. with Pastor McKinney officiating. Burial to follow at Duffau Cemetery.
