STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton Men’s Basketball head coach Billy Gillispie has announced the signing of Noah McDavid to a National Letter of Intent to join the Texan roster for 2021-22.

McDavid, a 6’5 180-pound guard from Dallas, joins the Texans after a standout prep career at Lake Highlands High School.

“I am super excited to be at Tarleton because my goal was always to play Division I basketball and I think this is a great opportunity to do so,” said McDavid. “I look forward to playing in the WAC, which is a very competitive conference that I think I can come and make a difference in.

“I am also looking forward to being coached by Coach Gillispie because I know he will push me on a daily basis to be the best version of myself for the team. He has coached many pros and has had a lot of success over the years getting the best out of his players.”

McDavid was one of the top scoring guards not in only Dallas but across the state, ranking as the No. 9 shooting guard in Texas. McDavid averaged 23.7 points per game as a senior for the Wildcats, which ranked third across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.

He also posted 5.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.7 steals per contest while shooting 50.9 percent from the floor, 35.9 percent on 3-pointers, and 85.1 percent on free throws. McDavid’s on-court success led to his team flourishing as Lake Highlands went 19-8, finishing second in a competitive District 7-6A and advanced to the third round of the UIL playoffs for the first time since 2004.

“Noah will be a great addition to the players that we have signed and the ones that we have returning,” said Gillispie. “He is a proven winning competitor that can play multiple positions. He has been well taught by Coach Duffield and has a lot of experience at the highest level of Texas high school basketball. His skill level is very high and his desire to become a great player is something to be proud of. We are extremely happy that Noah will join the Texans.”

In three years at Lake Highlands, McDavid scored 1,235 career points. As a senior, he was selected the District 7-6A Offensive Player of the Year and named Class 6A TABC All-Region after claiming all-district honors all three years on varsity.

“Noah is one of the hardest working and high-character kids I’ve had the pleasure of coaching,” said Lake Highlands Head Coach Joe Duffield. “He has great size as a perimeter player, has a high motor, defends multiple positions, and can score at all three levels. Noah has great athleticism and leadership qualities. I believe he will make an instant impact at the next level.”

McDavid also excelled in the classroom, claiming 7-6A academic all-district accolades all three years in addition to TABC academic all-state honors. McDavid was also a member of the Richardson ISD Student-Athlete Leadership Team. He plans to major in General Business at Tarleton.

McDavid chose Tarleton over Texas State, Denver, UC Riverside, Bucknell, Army and Navy.
