Erath County — Dozens are mourning the loss of a mother killed in a crash this afternoon while two of her children have been taken to an area hospital.

Just after noon on Tuesday, July 13, first responders were dispatched to the scene of a two-vehicle crash north of Stephenville on US Hwy. 67. Texas Highway Patrol Troopers were also dispatched to investigate.

According to troopers’ reports from the scene, “a 2015 Chrysler van was traveling north on 67. The driver of the van, 50-year-old Tammie Lynn Combs, of Stephenville, failed to see a vehicle stopped in front of her preparing to turn left into a business.  The Chrysler struck the rear of an 18-wheeler trailer being towed by a 2005 International Cub Cadet tractor.  Combs died at the scene. Two passengers, ages eight and ten, who were inside the Chrysler were transported to a Stephenville hospital with undisclosed injuries.  The driver of the International Cub Cadet, Mark W. Lively, 63, of Hico, was not injured.”

Tammie Combs was a foster parent and worked at Fosters Home in Stephenville.
