City of Stephenville announces lone candidate for Fire Chief

Stephenville City Manager Allen Barnes announced Chief Robert Isbell of the Round Rock Fire Department has been named as the lone finalist for the Fire Chief’s position left open by the retirement of Jimmy Chew.  Chief Isbell has been Fire Chief at Round Rock for the past five years.  He previously served as chief for the cities of Midland, Euless, and Southlake.  Chief Isbell began his career with the Mansfield Fire Department.

“We had an extremely competitive field of applicants.” City Manager Allen Barnes explained.  “There we about 30 applicants from as far away as Alaska and as close as here in Stephenville.  Many outstanding fire executives did not continue to the interview stage of the selection process.” Barnes said.  

Chief Isbell holds a Master’s Degree in Executive Fire Service Leadership from Grand Canyon University.  He is a Certified Public Manager through Texas Tech University.  Chief Isbell has served on the Governor’s EMS and Trauma Advisory Council since Governor Abbott appointed him in 2016.The city hopes to have the hiring process completed in the next week or so and for Chief Isbell to begin work on October 4.  A reception will be held in honor of Chief Isbell at a later date.
