A Memorial service with Masonic Rites for Lt. Col. Zane L. Lantz, 86, retired pilot, will be held at Lacy Funeral Home on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 10:30, with Rev. Don Kirkland officiating.

Zane passed into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ while surrounded by his loving family early Sunday, September 12. It gives his family great peace to know that the same faith that guided him in his life also gave him comfort and assurance as he approached death: as a sinner saved by God’s grace, he would be proceeding on to eternal life with his Heavenly Father.

Zane was born in Mansfield, Ohio on October 28, 1934, to Lester and Elverda (Stine) Lantz. After graduating from Union High School, Shelby, Ohio, in 1952, he attended Ohio State University as an ROTC student and graduated in 1956. That same year he was commissioned as an officer in the US Air Force. He married “Mickey” Mary Katherine Pemberton on August 14, 1960, in Ogden, Utah.

He retired as a Lt. Col. from the USAF in 1979 and continued flying as a private pilot until 2005. He had a colorful career and loved it. Zane was a member of the Hope Lutheran Church. He was also a member of numerous groups and organizations, including Stephenville Masonic Lodge #267, Sojourners, Shriners, American Legion, Quiet Birdmen, Daedalians, and Farm House Fraternity. Zane was an A-1 mechanic, and often blessed his family with these skills.

Zane is survived by his wife of 61 years, “Mickey” Mary Katherine (Pemberton) Lantz; 3 children, Kathy Shafer, and husband, Dwayne, of Stephenville, Texas, Amy Miller, and husband, Matt, of Stephenville, Texas, and Jerlyn Lantz, of Chester, Virginia; 6 grandchildren, Raz Shafer, Kris Shafer, Jacob Shafer, Joe Hansen, Zane Miller, Sarah Miller, and Rebekah Miller; 6 great grandchildren; and sister, Ann Lazaroff, and husband, Al, of Piscataway, New Jersey. He was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph S. Lantz.
