Gerald Wayne Hicks was born in Hico, Texas on December 7, 1939 to parents James and Allene (Patterson) Hicks. Wayne went to be with his Lord Jesus on October 6, 2021.

Wayne’s early years were in the Hico area until the family moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico where he completed elementary through high school graduation. He loved and played multiple sports and was center fielder on the Carlsbad high school baseball team that won the New Mexico state championship. He prided himself on practicing running the hurdles by taking a coin (nickel) off the top of the hurdle with his lead foot. He later officiated high school football games for many years. In more recent years he loved rooting on the Texas Rangers and also Texas Tech, where he attended.

Wayne was a highly-skilled electrician, which brought his family to Fort Worth in 1967. He was a proud lifetime member of the IBEW. He completed his professional career after many years at Miller Brewing Company in Fort Worth.

He relocated back to Hico in 1985. He provided excellent stewardship of the family homestead that was previously farmed by his grandparents. He was proud of his well-taken care of cows. He was recognized at the Texas State Capitol in 2016 for Family Land Heritage exceeding 100 years.
Wayne loved his church family, being with friends and recounting memories. He loved music and enjoyed playing the steel guitar and trips to Pearl, TX, Branson, MO and other music venues.

Wayne’s greatest pride and joy came in his family and grandchildren. For many years he hosted grandchildren at the farm for their week of swimming, fishing, cookouts and general fun. He was Pa-Pa to many! He gave each grandchild, nephew, niece and others their own special nickname, like Scalawag, PontNo, Scamp and Wormy, and he was a source of great joy and memories. He was loved to the end and leaves a great legacy.

Preceding Wayne in death were his parents and brother Raymond Hicks.
