Obituary
Lloyd Earl (Shorty) Adams, 89, of Stephenville, Texas, left this life peacefully on Thursday, October 21, 2021. He was born in Mesquite, Texas, on March 22, 1932, to P. D. “Shorty” Adams and Ruby Gooding Adams. He was preceded in death by his parents, his six brothers, Bob Adams, Paul Adams, Dick Adams, C. H. Adams, Butch Adams, and Slim Adams, and his grandson, Trey Adams.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Sue Adams, and his sister, Marjorie Gazaway. He also leaves behind three children, Rhonda Wise, Deborah Stevens, and Lloyd, Jr. and wife, Laura. There are eight grandchildren, Nikki and Steve Callaway, Brandi and Wesley Nelson, Amber and Les Branson, Amy Ananian, Lauren and Brandon Saxon, Kristy and Rhett Everett, Courtney Adams, and Lane Adams. He is survived by 15 great-grandchildren, Aaron, Sarah and Kynzi Callaway, Zach and wife, Kayce, and Brady Nelson, Ben Montoya, Tate, Taylor and Telese Branson, Tristian, Harper, Jessie and Tanner Saxon, and Graham and Hudson Everett. He had one great great-grandson, Callan Nelson, and one heart felt son, Brad Benne of Round Rock.
Shorty was a life-long resident of Erath County. He was raised in the Oak Dale community where he attended school and grew up working on the family peanut farm. In 1951, he married Norma Sue Moring and opened a Humble Station on the corner of Graham and Frey in Stephenville. In 1954, he opened a Conoco Station on Graham Street. He also decided to go into the dairy business in 1954, starting with 16 cows which over the years grew into a large dairy operation. He ventured into the restaurant business opening The Red Bandana Steakhouse on the South Loop in 1978. The restaurant created special relationships among the employees and patrons that continue to this day. After retiring from the restaurant business in 1987, he remained active in the community serving as a bus driver for the Stephenville Independent School District. He spent 32 years driving his extended family’s children to their school games and other activities.
Shorty loved being social and never met a stranger. He and Sue traveled the country in their motor home. Friends they made along the way would stop by the restaurant when they were in town. He loved playing cards and dominoes with his grandchildren and enjoyed a good game of dominoes at The Senior Citizen’s Center. He could always be found in the basketball and football bleachers or at the rodeo arena cheering on his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Gathering with his friends at the local coffee shop to discuss the latest news was his favorite pastime. He also enjoyed playing softball and looked forward to the ice cream socials. He was a man that always met you with a smile, a handshake, but more than likely a warm embracing hug. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Visitation will be held Monday, October 25th, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Cowboy Church of Erath County. Funeral service will be held at the church on Tuesday, October 26th, at 10:30 am with burial following at the Erath Gardens of Memory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Cowboy Church.
