Erath County — On Sunday, Nov. 14, a Stephenville man lost his life in a two-vehicle crash on US Highway 377.
According to crash reports, first responders were dispatched to a report of a vehicle vs motorcycle crash 377, near the intersection with Business 377, at approximately 6 p.m. Upon arrival, the first responders called for an air ambulance and Texas Highway Patrol to investigate the crash.
A preliminary investigation by DPS indicates a 2002 Ford F-150 pickup, driven by 59-year-old Theresia J. Dearman of Granbury, was traveling east on Business 377 and stopped at the intersection with US 377. The Ford attempted to cross the southbound lanes of US 377 to turn and go north on US 377.
According to troopers investigating the crash, “Dearman failed to yield the right-of-way to the 2017 Kawasaki motorcycle traveling south on US 377.”
The two vehicles collided in the inside, southbound lane of US 377. The driver of the motorcycle, Cade R. Schmutz, 25 of Stephenville, was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, but died from his injuries.
