Ruby Craig, age 88, passed away on Thursday, December 2, 2021 in Gustine.

Ruby was born on October 26, 1933, in Comanche, Texas. She was the fourth child born to Thomas T. Sutton and Rilla Mae (Durham). She attended Gustine ISD. She spent a lot of her youth with Starkey Braim, who taught her to cook and shaped her to the woman she was to become. She married W.S (Bill) Craig, Jr. on July 1, 1951. To their union were born four children, Brenda, an infant son who only lived a few hours, Sandy, and Rodger. Ruby loved her family dearly and put them above herself and she took both grandchildren and great-grandchildren into her home and instilled love and compassion in them. She enjoyed reading and cherished her Sunday school class members and attending First Baptist Church of Comanche. She was a hard worker and worked at the cookie factory, sewing factory, Manns, and lastly Partners Pizza.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Stepken and husband, Mike, of Gustine; son, Rodger Craig of Duster; six grandchildren, Clint Reed and wife, Kina, Shyla Strickland, Jeremy Boucher, Jami Markle and husband, Jason, Macy Craig, and Dylan Craig; great grandchildren, Kymberlee Strickland, Trenton Strickland, Tristan Boucher, William Boucher, Tyler, Markle, Toby Markle, Taylor Markle, Jase Avey, Makynlee Lavender, Dakota Lavender, Tagen Craig; two great-great grandchildren, Stella Markle and Ezekiel Markle; brother, Jack Sutton of Florida; sister, Dorothy Waring of California; aunt, Lena Like of Gustine; many nieces and nephews; and adopted grandchildren, Amanda Baehler and Sherry Steele; and by special friend, Belinda Allen. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas T. Sutton and Rilla Mae (Durham); two sisters, Rose Lee and Betty Steele; brother, John Sutton, and grandson, Blayne Craig.

Service Details

Visitation will be held from 5 – 7 p.m. on December 5 at the Comanche Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held in the Desdemona Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Monday, December 6.
