Delma Lee Helm was born on Friday, March 3, 1939 to David Walton Helm and Beatrice Johnston Helm in Soda Springs, Comanche County, Texas. She moved to her heavenly home on December 11, 2021.

In 1947, she and her family moved to San Antonio for her father to attend Texas Chiropractic College. After his graduation, they lived in Hearne, TX for a year before settling in Cleveland, TX.

Delma graduated Salutatorian of the Class of ‘57 in Cleveland High School. After graduation, she attended secretarial school. She married R. W. “Sonny” Walters, Sr in 1958, but the marriage ended in divorce in 1993 and she never remarried.

Delma made her career as an executive secretary at Shell Oil Company in the Houston area, retiring with more than 30 years of service, in 2001.

She moved back to her home town of Comanche, TX and settled into retirement by becoming involved in the Comanche County Museum, the Republican Party of Comanche County, The National Day of Prayer and a number of Womens’ Bible Studies. She has always had a strong faith in God and was a gifted speaker and teacher of the Word of God. She also was interested in genealogy and history and spent many hours researching her family roots.

She was preceded in death, by her parents, Walton and Bea Helm, Sonny Walters, the father of her children, 3 brothers-in-law, Marion Hobbs, Dan Hoke and James Pate and a great granddaughter, Aletta Faith Walters.

She is survived by her sisters, Lu Hobbs, Joan Pate and Pam Hoke, her children, Diana Lee Nash, and her husband, Don and Warren Walters, Jr. and his wife, Dyan; grandchildren, Kaimen Walters, Brandon Grant (Leah), Bryan Grant (Sarah), Nikki Wyatt (Kendall), Billy Nash (Sydney), Trevor Grant, Max Walters (Tamera), Jordan Humm (Ryan), Sam Walters, Jordan Tupper and Jacey Tupper; Great grandchildren, Romani, Kingston, Canyon, Magnolia, Gabriel, Bowie, Luxie, Graham, Luke, Silas, Shepherd, Rowan, Cora, Oliver and Penny. Many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Service Details

Visitation will be held from 5 – 7 p.m. on Friday, December 17, at the Comanche Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 18, in the Taylor’s Chapel Cemetery in Comanche County.
