Texans Knock Down Lipscomb in Nashville to Even Record Through 4 Matches

NASHVILLE – Tarleton brought all nine players to Nashville for their two matches on Friday and Saturday. Not only did all nine earn valuable experience the first day, the Texans took home a 5-2 win over Lipscomb.

Tarleton tennis took on the Bison at the indoor tennis facility at Ensworth High School on Friday. With the win, the Texans evened through record back to .500 through four matches, the two losses coming to ranked Power Five conference programs on the road.

At Lipscomb, Deniza Marcinkevica and Jemi Aguilar got things started in the No. 1 position doubles match by cruising over Kate Popova and Maddox Bandy 6-2. Tarleton’s top pair is now 2-0 this season, their two other matches unfinished at Texas A&M and Oklahoma.

In the No. 2 position, senior Faustine Palatte made her first appearance of the season, playing alongside Natalia Komar. They fell 3-6 to Liza Diachenko and Sasha Dobranos, leaving it up to the No. 3 position in doubles to decide the point. Tarleton’s Elsa Boisson and Martha Makantasi got it done against Anja Trbeznik and Eleanor Chapman 6-4.

Boisson carried her strong play over to singles, where she dominated Trbeznik in the No. 4 position 6-2, 6-0, finishing first and able to watch her teammates finish out. Doubles teammate Makantasi also won with relative ease 6-2, 6-3 over Emma Zakordoniec.

With a 3-0 lead in hand for Tarleton, the other four matches were more competitive to end the day.

Marcinkevica won 7-5, 6-1 against Lipscomb’s top player, Popova, ensuring a Texans’ victory by clinching the fourth point. In the No. 5 spot, Vaudiau held off Diachenko 6-3, 5-7, 10-5. Aguilar fell to Dobranos 3-6, 3-6 in the No. 2 slot, while Komar ran out of gas in the No. 6 position against Bandy 7-5, 1-6, 1-10.

Vaudiau leads Tarleton in singles with a 2-1 overall record. Marcinkevica, Makantasi and Boisson are all 2-2.

Anna Davidson and Rose Watanabe also participated against Lipscomb in exhibition matches that did not count toward the results.

The Texans will look to make it a perfect trip to Tennessee with a Saturday bout at Belmont in Nashville at the Hadley Park Tennis Center. The match is slated to begin at 3 p.m. CT. It is not scheduled to be live streamed.
