Wanda Joyce Solley went to be with our God, and her beloved late husband on Wednesday, February 23, 2022.
Funeral services for Wanda will be 11:00 AM Monday, February 28th at Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel with Doug McLemore officiating. Burial will follow at West End Cemetery. Visitation with Wanda’s family will be 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Sunday at Stephenville Funeral Home
Wanda was born September 20, 1935 in Brownwood, Tx to William H. and Evelyn J. Mobley. She graduated from Early High School and received a Bachelor’s degree from Howard Payne University and then a Master’s degree from Tarleton State University.
In December of 1957 she met and later married the love of her life Lt. Lee Solley. The next 20 years she was a faithful Army officer’s wife accompanying Lee on assignments to Germany; Ft. Sill, OK; Ft. Hood, Tx; Omaha, NB; Leavenworth, KS; and Stephenville, TX. During the two years that Lee was in Vietnam, Wanda lived in Brownwood, Tx. After Lee retired from the Army in 1976, they settled in Stephenville, where Wanda became a beloved teacher in the Stephenville Independent School District.
Wanda’s great passion in life was teaching. She taught school in Richland Springs, Tx; Germany; Copperas Cove, Tx; Leavenworth, Ks; and Stephenville, Tx. She taught 3rd grade in Stephenville for over 30 years. Her love of children was so great that when she reached mandatory retirement age, she continued to teach as a permanent substitute teacher for very little compensation.
Wanda was always energetic and eager to volunteer. She worked tirelessly in her church, the Zonta Club, the Hospital Auxiliary, and meals on wheels. The people she served in any volunteer service truly loved Wanda and always looked forward to her arrival, as well as her smile and kind words.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lt. Col. Lee Solley, niece Lori Mobley, nephew Randall Mobley, her sister Virginia Dumas and husband John.
Wanda is survived by her brother Billy Mobley and his wife Myrtle, her nephew Dwaine Dumas and wife Tisha; her niece Vicki Mayes and husband Steve; her niece Kathy Stapp and husband Paul; her nephew Michael Mobley and fiancée Tami McMinn; 9 great nephews and nieces; 17 great-great nephews and nieces; and many co-workers, fellow volunteers, and thousands of former students who loved her dearly.
