Texans swept on finale day of Lobo Classic

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Nothing seemed to go Tarleton’s way in the final two games of the Lobo Classic as the Texans fell to North Dakota State and New Mexico in their final two games of tournament play this season.

“Not much to say after this performance,” said head coach Mark Cumpian. “We lost in every aspect of the game this weekend, gave us way too many free bases, and played terrible defense. We need to come home, renew our focus, and get back to putting pride in the little things day in and day out.”

Tarleton will now turn to traditional midweek doubleheaders and weekend series the rest of the way.

Game 1: North Dakota State 9, Tarleton 1 (5)

North Dakota State managed to scratch out runs in every inning while the Texans could get nothing brewing offensively.

The Bison scored one in the first and two in each of the next four innings while Tarleton scored its lone run on a bases-loaded wild pitch in the fourth. Tarleton managed just three hits – one each from Amanda DeSario, Austin Germain and Tristyn Trull – in the loss.

Reagan Chism and Kennedy Ferguson combined for the five innings of work in the circle.

Game 2: New Mexico 8, Tarleton 0 (5)

Only a Brady Rowland single in the fourth stood in the way of New Mexico’s pursuit of perfection as the Lobos defeated Tarleton 8-0 in the tournament finale.

Hannah Mayo and Tristan Bridges pitched for Tarleton. Bridges went 2.2 innings and struck out two.

Tarleton will return home looking to get back on the right track with a Tuesday afternoon doubleheader at 2 p.m. against Texas Southern.
