John Mark Spruill went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 10, 2022. John Mark was born October 11, 1934, to Robert Lee and Dixie (Sloan) Spruill and was the youngest of five children. He grew up in Comanche, Texas on his family farm until February 1957 when he joined the United States Army, where he served three years active duty and several more in the Army Reserves. On December 14, 1963, he was united in marriage to Mary (Bartlett) Spruill. Two years later, they welcomed their only child, Donna.

John was a farmer most of his life and a simple country man. He never met a stranger and was quick to smile and offer a handshake. He was willing to help others, loved all his family, and enjoyed family gatherings. He was a devoted Christian. He and Mary were members of East Side Baptist Church in Comanche.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Spruill; daughter, Donna Green and husband, Cory, of Pflugerville; five grandchildren, Jessica Green of Georgetown, Shelby Stires and husband, Michael, of College Station; Hayden Green of Georgetown, Dathan Green of Pflugerville, and Seth Green of Pflugerville. He had numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to East Side Baptist Church or any other charity of choice.

Service Details

Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. on Monday, March 14, at the Comanche Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 15, in the Comanche Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Comanche County.
