BEAUMONT – Tarleton notched their 20th win of the season with an 8-1 rout of Lamar in the series opener before suffering a 3-2 walk-off loss in the nightcap.

Game 1: Tarleton 8, Lamar 1

The Tarleton bats came to life in the series opener with eight runs on eight hits to earn their 20th win of the season 8-1 over Lamar.

Tarleton got the scoring started in the second with a leadoff triple from Austin Germain and an RBI single from Amanda DeSario. In their next inning of at bats, the Texans tacked on a four-spot with a two-RBI single from Katy Schaefer, an RBI groundout from DeSario and a run-scoring error from the Cardinals to lead 5-0 after three.

While Lamar managed only a single run in the fourth off Tarleton starter Tristan Bridges, the sticks continued to pour it on with RBI doubles in the sixth from Tristyn Trull and Georgia Capell and the final run of the game on a sacrifice fly from Destiny Salinas in the seventh.

Germain and DeSario led the team with two hits each while Morgan Medford, Georgia Capell, Katy Schaefer, and Trull had one hit each.

Meanwhile, in the circle, Tristan Bridges was once again spectacular.

The junior southpaw went all seven innings and allowed just an unearned run on five hits. She struck out four.

Game 2: Lamar 3, Tarleton 2 (8)

The Texans dropped an extra-inning pitcher’s duel in the nightcap – 3-2 to the Cardinals.

Lamar put up solo runs in the first and third before Georgia Capell tied things up with a bloop, two-run single to beat a pull-shift to the left side. The tie game carried all the way to the eighth when the Cardinals ripped a bases-loaded, two-out single for the winner.

Tarleton had just one hit from five different Texans – Medford, Capell, Schaefer, Trull, and Hallie Saintignan.

Both pitchers went the distance in this extra-inning affair.

Reagan Chism took the tough-luck loss with 7.2 innings of work, allowing three runs – two earned – and striking out five.

Tarleton and Lamar will play the rubber game tomorrow at noon.
