April 25, 2022 – The Erath County Commissioners appointed Larry Smith as the Chairman of the Erath County Historical Commission. Smith has served as a member of the Commission since 2020. Smith is excited to serve the community in this capacity and says, “For our stories to continue, we must tell our stories.”

The Erath County Historical Commission serves as the primary point of contact for individuals who need more information about particular aspects of history and historic sites in our local area. The Texas Legislature authorized counties to establish County Historical Commissions (CHC) to assist county commissioners’ courts and the Texas Historical Commission (THC) in the preservation of our historic and cultural resources. The mission of the CHC is to preserve, protect and promote these resources.

Smith is a graduate of Stephenville High School and Tarleton State University. He serves as the Chair of the Boy Scouts of America’s Old Comanche Trails District and is a member of the Texas Trails Council. Smith is a member of the Stephenville Lions Club, Stephenville Masonic Lodge #267, and the Clairette Masonic Lodge #1052.

Smith and his wife, Julie are members of the First United Methodist Church in Stephenville and live on their ranch near Clairette.
