Carl L. Jones passed away peacefully May 19, 2022 at the age of 98.
Carl was born February 28, 1924 to Travis and Laura Hogan. He was the youngest of fourteen children. His mother, Laura, passed away during childbirth. Two weeks later, he was lovingly adopted by neighbors W.R. and Ellen Jones. They had one son, Leroy Jones. Being close neighbors, Carl was able to be raised along with his Hogan family siblings.
He married Nancy B. Laquey on August 17, 1944. Together they had one son and three daughters. She preceded him in death on January 4, 2021 and would have been married for 77 years.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great grandfather as well as was a friend to many. Many newborns in the family got their first taste of a sucker which he looked forward to feeding them and would carry one in the bib of his overalls just waiting for the perfect opportunity. He liked to play tricks on anyone such as tricking the son-in-laws or grandsons into touching a charged electric fence wire or spark plug on a running engine to shooting rubber bands or water guns at the grandkids.
He was a man of many talents. He was a mechanic, farmer, carpenter, welder, a fixer of anything. He restored tractors and traveled all over Texas working on tractors and other farm equipment. He continued the tradition for many years of making sorghum syrup that was handed down from his dad. During syrup making time the process and delicious end result of the syrup was enjoyed by family and many friends. He had a wealth of knowledge the he would gladly share, when asked.
He is also preceded in death by his son Freddie and his wife Linda, and a granddaughter, Tracy.
Carl is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Grady Rasberry of Lingleville, Nita and Craig Heaton of Stephenville, Sandy and Jerry Pack of Stephenville, nephew Jeff Jones and wife Gloria of Victoria, 8 grandchildren and spouses, 16 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly and his constant companion and protector, his dog Jody.
